Just wanted everyone to know that the grant for "Families That Read, Succeed" has been resubmitted. It is my hope that we will be funded for eight sites next school year!

This week has brought the four weeks of Families That Read, Succeed program to a close. A total of 52 families participated at three sites. Along with principals, teachers, volunteers, Success By 6 and Read to Succeed staff, a total of 32 MTSU students participated. My students and I feel privileged to have worked with the families and other individuals in our community that have been involved in the program. As we reflect on our experiences, we want to share our thoughts, the things we learned and how the program helped us become better teachers. Visit familiesthatreadsucceed.googlepages.com/home to view the book titles and activities from each of the three programs. The site is currently under construction, but we are working on getting activities posted! Also, if you have not been to www.readtosucceed.org check it out. You will learn about many upcoming events.

More About Families That Read, Succeed
The Families That Read, Succeed program is a joint effort between Read to Succeed, Success by 6, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro City and the schools in the area. The focus of the program is to encourage family literacy and to let families know that reading is fun! There have been many other positive and unexpected outcomes throughout the program.
The purpose of this blog is to give the community, schools, families, students and others involved in the program an opportunity to post their comments about the program. I have heard so many positive comments and this blog is a good outlet for everyone to share their comments and experiences in this very positive program.
